I started
'Robin Hooding' over fifteen years ago, working at medieval
banquets and shows at both The Sheriff's Lodge
and The Tales of Robin Hood in Nottingham, and from
there all over the country and all over the world! Before that
I used to do sword-fighting re-enactment as a hobby...
...but
it's just as much fun doing it for a living, and I daren't
think how many thousands of banquets (and hundreds of
thousands of people) I've performed for.
Aside from regular banqueting, some of the most moving times
have been meeting people who were excited to meet Robin Hood -
children of course, but especially the shows we run at Center
Parcs for the
When You
Wish Upon A Star charity for very ill children, which
are always wonderful.
Nottingham
Council holds an annual Robin Hood Pageant in November, and
last year I was featured on all of the posters, banners and
flyers, where I met, greeted (and posed with) as many of the
thousands of visitors as possible!
I've also been
lucky enough to travel as Robin, and make some very good
friends, especially the Pied Piper of Hameln (or Hamelin). The
Piper (the excellent Michael Boyer) has visited Nottingham as
my (and the council's) guest, and I have travelled to Hameln
twice now, most recently last year where we raised money for
the Hameln Children's Hospital. We are now starting an
international Legion of Legends with Switzerland's William
Tell, hopefully with local civic support!
I've also been
lucky enough to travel as Nottingham's official Robin Hood to
the US and Canada, representing the city in Toronto, New York,
Houston and Chicago - see some of the photos
here! |
