I've been
performing at banquets for over fifteen years now and still
enjoy it as much as ever - people are always out to have a
good time, and a banquet provides something a little bit out
of the ordinary they'll remember for a very long time - plus,
you get to dress up too!
A
typical evening banquet lasts about three hours with four or
five food courses alternating with performers and musicians
providing comedy, music, dancing, singing, a medieval joust
(all of which you can join in), sword-fighting, magic,
illusion and feats of silliness such as the deadly Bed of
Nails (where you shouldn't join in), before a
spectacular fire-breathing finale! And yes, that is me in the
picture, firebreathing at a mediaeval wedding! As Robin Hood I
entertain, MC and compere, swordfight, fire-breathe, perform
bed of nail/walking on broken glass acts, run games and
dances, accompany the musicians (on the drums) and generally
organise and keep things running smoothly.
Menu's vary
according to price and location, but you can expect simple but
tasty food such as soups, salads, chicken and meat courses.
Some venues include free beer or lager in the cover price,
others have standard pay bars.
I have
regularly performed (and still do!) with a number of very
talented performers at venues in and around Nottingham and all
over the UK, including Center Parcs (Sherwood), The
Sheriff's Lodge and The Tales of Robin Hood
(Nottingham), Warwick Castle (Warwick), Peckforton Castle
(Cheshire), Battle Abbey (Hastings), Coombe Abbey
(Coventry) and many more.
